Younger Futhark Rune Generator
One of the 16 Younger Futhark runes
Draw a single rune from the complete Younger Futhark, the runic alphabet of the Viking Age, in its standard long-branch form — with the Unicode glyph, name, phonetic value, and a short divinatory meaning (e.g. ᚠ Fé (f) · Wealth). Useful for daily oracles, journaling prompts, story ideas, and quick decisions.
Fair random selection
Each cast picks one of the 16 Younger Futhark runes uniformly at random. Rangdom uses the Web Crypto API for random generation so the next rune is not predictable from previous casts.
The Younger Futhark
The Younger Futhark is the runic alphabet of the Viking Age, used across Scandinavia from roughly the 8th century. It trimmed the older 24-rune Elder Futhark down to 16 runes — from Fé (wealth) to Ýr (yew) — so several runes stand for more than one sound. This generator uses the standard long-branch (Danish) forms.
When to use it
Use this generator for quick single-rune draws, daily oracles, journaling and writing prompts, teaching the Younger Futhark, and games where one random Viking-Age rune is enough. To study the whole set, try the Younger Futhark chart & quiz.
