Add tax or back it out of a tax-inclusive total

Choose Add tax to treat the amount as a net (pre-tax) price and put tax on top — the tax is amount × rate ÷ 100 and the gross total is amount + tax. Choose Remove tax to treat the amount as a tax-inclusive total and back the tax out (reverse VAT): the net is amount ÷ (1 + rate ÷ 100) and the tax is amount − net. Every value updates live as you type and is shown to two decimal places. A rate of 0 is valid, leaving net and gross equal.

An inline error appears instead of a result when the amount or rate is empty, non-numeric, or negative. Currency symbols and conversion, stacked or tiered taxes, jurisdiction-specific rounding, and per-line invoices are out of scope.
