Validate a VIN check digit
Paste a 17-character VIN to confirm its position-9 check digit, see the expected value, and read off the corrected VIN when the digit is wrong. The check uses the standard ISO 3779 transliteration and weighting; spaces and hyphens are ignored and lowercase input is uppercased. The position-9 check digit is required for North American VINs and is not universally present worldwide, so a failing result may simply mean the VIN was issued under a scheme without it.
